Περιγραφή:	The essay explores questions of listening and witnessing through a focus on the inner archive of the body as well as by reflecting upon the political violences of the disappeared found in the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile (1973-90). Is not listening often called upon as a means for approaching past experiences, especially those marked by trauma and loss, and which are often held in silence? Considering this question, notions of the inner, affective archives of silence of intergenerational trauma are elaborated as calls for creative methodologies and practices; ways of carrying, holding and narrating trauma and violence are described, following the example of Chilean artists confronted by torture and disappearance, and through the writings of Saidiya Hartman and M. NourbeSe Philip. These examples point to forms of witnessing guided by what I term ‘negative listening’, as a listening adept at navigating silence, absence, and erasure – and that, following Yael Navaro’s ideas of ‘negative methodology’, entail new research practices. Negative listening is a poetic methodology affording ways of witnessing what cannot be witnessed.
