Περιγραφή:	The chapter provides a new edition, translation, and analysis of the accounting notes that a Thessalonian merchant probably called Kasandrenos wrote in 1356–7 on empty pages of Vat. gr. 1110, a manuscript containing works of Barlaam of Calabria. These notes are among the longest and perhaps the most interesting of the few such writings that have survived from Byzantium, constituting a source of the greatest value for the study of the society and the economy of Thessalonike in the 1350s. Known since 1991, when they were published by Peter Schreiner, they have received little attention and have remained largely misunderstood. This chapter reexamines the notes of Kasandrenos in the light of new readings and information coming from documents published in Vatopédi II and Vatopédi III. A new edition and annotated translation of the text are given at the end.
